New Items: Garden Gazebo, Oast House, and More

Author Major Category , , ,

The big surprise of the evening has to be the overabundance of brand new Buildings in FarmVille, with three new ones making their Market debut in tonight’s English Countryside Market update. We haven’t had this many new Buildings in a long time, so let’s jump right into them.

null

Let us begin with a Coin item, shall we? We love the Gazebos in FarmVille; there is something about how colorful they are with their foliage adapting to the architecture of the Garden Gazebo itself that is enticing to us… well, that and the fact that gazebos are pretty awesome in real life, too. So by offering a spiffy repaint of a farmer Gazebo at the cost of Coins is a no-brainer to us, sign us up. This Gazebo can actually be rotated, as well, and gives you 1,500 EXP for the 150,000 Coin purchase. It looks great on the English Countryside farm, so we highly recommend it.

null

In the world of FV Cash purchases, this new Oast House is the top billing of the week, checking out at a whopping 30 FV Cash – a steep number by recent FarmVille standards of pricing for Buildings. So, why does it cost so much? Is it actually better than other Buildings? Well, yeah, just look at it. Regardless of if you like it or dislike it, one thing you certainly cannot say is that it’s boring, bland, or looks similar to anything else on FarmVille’s Market. This is for the true blue brewers of the world, as the Oast House is used to dry out the hops when crafting beer. We knew drinking beer had its upsides: beer knowledge. We love this, personally, as you likely know about our love of ivy-covered structures by now. You will even receive 3,000 EXP for the purchase of the rotatable Building.

null

Finally, something a little more traditional and less crazy: the Tudor Cottage, a small, old-fashioned straw cottage that is comprised of ivy-clung walls and brand new window frames, which we have to admit look a little out of place on the structure itself. A slightly crooked picket fence graces the Building to give it a suburban feel. This one is nice, and can be rotated, but seems slightly overpriced at 20 FV Cash; other similar structures have sold recently for a few bucks less. If you decide to take the plunge, expect to receive 2,000 EXP in return.

Which is your favorite of these three? We gotta go with the Oast House. It is too unique to pass up.

New Items: Shetland Pony, Devon Horse, and More

Author Major Category , , ,

Holy goodies, Batman! There is a ton of wonderful new items on the FarmVille Market, ranging from new Buildings, new Trees, new Animals, new Decorations, and even a brand new Mystery Game, all in honor of the English Countryside! Let’s dive into the Animals.

null

What a refreshing sight, seeing some new premium Horses and Cows that are not paired up within the Mystery Game, which will cost users hundreds of FV Cash attempting to obtain. These two beauties are both pretty good, including this Shetland Pony. This is one of the best new Horses that has arrived as of late, and several winners have been in the fray over the past month, so it’s not as if we have been on the short end of the stick the way that we were around the Holiday season.

This Shetland Pony is a brand new model design for the Horses, and even has a brand new Foal design – something we haven’t seen in a long, long time. This alone makes the Shetland Pony a wise purchase for 24 FV Cash, which is on the lower side of average for a new Horse. This one is a beauty, though, with its long blonde mane and gorgeous brown coat. There is no reason not to buy it if you are a Horse collector with some disposable income.

null

On the flipside, here is a brand new Cow that features one of the older models that is slightly modified to fit the bill. We love this modification, which is much better than your casual repaint or slight alteration that can barely be noticed. The Devon Cow features a bright tan tail, which sets it apart, but features a puffy brown head of hair that flows down into what looks like the effect of a beard. How adorable! The new Calf that it produces also has the whole “puffy hair and beard” effect, making it a favorite for Calf breeders. It costs 22 FV Cash, and we recommend it.

null

That is not all for the Animals tab this evening, though we suspect this little guy will be left out in the cold compared to the two must-have Animals that we just spoke of. This is the Bagot Goat, and it is, in our opinion, one of the best Goats to ever grace our virtual property. It is a shame that it released on a night filled with other goodies, as it could have easily been a nice seller. It features improved animation, as it occasionally smacks its lips since we know goats love to chew on anything they can find. It costs 14 FV Cash, which is a little steep and one reason we suspect it will not sell as well as it could have.

Which Animals are you buying this week?

Mystery Game: March 27, 2011

Author Major Category ,

It’s that time of the week again, the Mystery Game has arrived! This week’s entry focuses on everybody favorite flyin’, feathered friends, birds! Each Mystery Dart this week will run you 18 FV Cash per shot.

null

As you can see, this week did not go so well for us. You wouldn’t guess it by looking at the picture, but we actually started off on fire this week, going five for five with the top row of balloons. We always go top shelf to start and always recommend it, as we have good results at the top. Of course, things took a turn for the worse when we tried to obtain…

null

The White Barn Owl, otherwise known as our great FV Cash nemesis since we burned through so much to acquire it, is a gorgeous new Owl for the FarmVille players out there who are like us and just can’t get enough of the Owls in the game. We really love the design of the actual Owl in this one, with its white trim around the bottom of its chin and the light tan face in a heart shape. It is a really beautiful Owl, though considering it is a decorative piece instead of a collective Animal, we question every time something you get nothing in return from is in one of the Rare slots of the Mystery Game.

null

On the flipside of this argument is something that you not only collect Coins from, but can receive rare Mystery Eggs from when placed inside of the Chicken Coop: the Sussex Chicken, a brand new English Countryside-themed Chicken that fits the part. This guy slightly resembles your average FarmVille Chicken with a few exceptions; most notably that it has black “Rorschach test”-type print patterns in black that resembles the psychological association exam. We also love the fact that it is more of a smoked gray color than plain white. It gives away English Countryside Eggs, for those interested.

null

Onto the Uncommon releases in this Mystery Game, the first of which is the Tufted Duck, a new addition to the Duck Pond to make all of your visiting neighbors a little more jealous. We got to be honest, the Tufted Duck rocks, and the reason is in the eyeliner: look at those gorgeous purple rings that envelop the eyes of this new aviary buddy of ours. Otherwise, this guy is a pretty standard-looking Duck, isn’t he? Good thing for a little bit of make-up!

null

The second Uncommon item in this week’s Mystery Game is another decorative piece to add to your bird collection, and a worthy one at that. The Kingfisher Decoration is a pair of two Kingfisher birds perched atop a floral-adorned branch, and features the beloved “Fly!” option that all of the decorative birds have. These birds themselves are truly beautiful, albeit a little too small to see. They are a glorious shade of teal across their backs, with their stomachs exposing their true, gold colors. This is the perfect addition to the Uncommon slot.

null

As for the Commons, which we received a lot of, we have the Grey Heron. Truth be told, this is probably our favorite addition to the Mystery Game this week, though it is mostly a crapshoot based on preferences. We love cranes in real life, so seeing the Grey Heron, a bird which is not entirely dissimilar to the crane or stork, so accurately portrayed is a definite plus. One issue that we have with it is the fact that it is has the same animation as a common Chicken, which seems a little… off.

null

Lastly, wrapping up this week’s Mystery Game is the final Common selection, the English Partridge. This little fellow is the perfect Common to receive, as it can be collected from, is very small and thus easy to find a space on your farm to store duplicates, and is completely unique in its design. It has an off-gray color around its body with little specks of brown, somewhat similar to a pigeon’s gray-on-black markings. It flutters its wings softly, though the animation is minimal.

All-in-all, nothing truly blew us away in this week’s Mystery Game, but if you love birds, toss a dart or two.

New Items: English Carriage, Garden Picnic, and More

Author Major Category , , , ,

The Decorations are not the final item to attend to tonight, as it seems the Mystery Game has updated and we always save the best for last. Alas, for now let’s take a peek at the small spattering of Decorations that have arrived for the English Countryside theme.

null

It has been a while since we have seen a new carriage with Horses attached, so this seems like a logical addition to the English Countryside theme. After all, which thinks of carbon emissions from machinery when they think of the English Countryside? Certainly not us. Regardless, we are never fans of the carriages in FarmVille, and that extends to this new English Carriage for 16 FV Cash. The reasoning is the fact that they cannot be rotated due to its animation combined with its size; something as big as the English Carriage is tough to find the space for the footprint of the Decoration, let alone that specific footprint from that angle. If you take the plunge, expect to receive 1,600 EXP for the purchase.

null

We suspect that many of you are tired of looking at FV Cash items tonight, though, so let’s bring on the Coin goodies! Here is the Garden Picnic, for those of you with food and wine in the sunshine on the brain. This is a fully rotatable Decoration that features a variety of different chairs pulled up to an elegant enough outdoor table. This one is a fun Decoration for the farmer who’s looking to spruce up the place with a little personality on the cheap (150,000 Coins). We recommend it for homely farmers, but it’s not necessarily for us with our style.

null

Now here is what we’re talking about, a nice Decoration deserving on being on our new English Countryside farm AND it’s for only 100,000 Coins: the Secluded Hideaway, a glorious bench attached to rope under ivy-coated wood. Our only beef is that it does not swing whatsoever, though we suspect it A) would not have had rotation if they were the case, and B) it would have been a FV Cash item to offset the animation cost in production. Either way, we love this item, as it is both cheap and a eye-catching addition to the farm.

null

And finally for the regular Market update, it seems that the English Countryside has finally gotten a worthy piece of Fencing under its belt with the addition of the Rose Iron Fence, available for 7,000 Coins per slab. This is a phenomenal Fence that looks great with most non-wooden-based English Countryside farms, and uses the English Roses we know and love to adorn the metallic sectioning. Love it!

Stay tuned for the Mystery Game review, coming up next!

News: Sheep Limited to 100 Per Farm

Author Major Category ,

So much for our double rainbow of Sheep: Zynga has limited the amount of Sheep you can have on your farm to 100.

null

For farmers who have bred more than 100 Sheep (Ewes, Rams, and Lambs), a new pop-up is greeting them, stating that they cannot have more than 100 Sheep on their farm at once. We were planning on creating a big rainbow made of a variety of sheep, as we have arranged our Mastery Signs the same way on our main farmland, but that looks to be in the gutter now with this new limit being enforced.

What are your thoughts on this new development? Are you upset by the announcement? We certainly are. Sheep Breeding is one of the few things that has kept us on the English Countryside, as opposed to focusing on our Tree Mastery at our home farm. Since we can only access one farm at a time, this feels like another deterrent from using the English Countryside.

Free Stuff Friday #7: April’s Limited Edition Trees

Author Major Category , , , , ,

The English Countryside has arrived, so while many of you have been rubbing your palms together like a crazy, mad scientist, thinking of all of the possibilities you can come up with for Sheep Breeding, we have been watching the trees bloom outside… before immediately getting pelted with snow. Grrr… This winter needs to end already.

That is why we have decided to hold a brand new contest unlike any other in the history of FarmVille Post. We will choose one (1) winner to receive one (1) of every Limited Edition Tree that is released between April 1, 2011 to April 30, 2011! Who knows which cool Trees will be introduced between then? All we know is that you will own ALL of them! Farmer Elsie will instruct the winner on details of how to claim their prize from Zoop after winning, good luck!

In order to win this prize package, you must complete the following steps:

Step 1: First up, Like us on our Facebook page. You can find our Facebook page by clicking here.

Step 2: Leave a comment on our Facebook page telling us what your favorite Tree is in FarmVille. Everybody has their own favorite in their collection, be it the crazy Bubble Gum Trees or the traditionally beautiful Coconut Trees. Let us know what your favorite is!

null

Our personal favorite Tree in all of FarmVille is the Lychee Tree, as seen above. It was originally made available back in June of 2010 for a very short time, and we managed to grab a single Lychee Tree before it disappeared. It is now available as a RewardVille purchase, which we were definitely excited about. We can’t wait to Master it!

Be sure to tell your friends about us by clicking “Share” on our Facebook statuses and links! We give stuff away every Friday! The cut-off date for entry to this contest is Friday, April 1st at 12:00am sharp, so make sure you enter before then! We will choose a winner on that same date, and they will be contacted by Farming Elsie on Facebook! If you get a message from Farming Elsie, it is 100% legitimate and you have won! We do not declare winners in public due to the fact that our readers’ privacy is very dear to us. At this time, only United States citizens are able to enter. Duplicate entries will result in disqualification, in order to keep things fair. Good luck, and congratulations to this week’s winner!

If you are new to FarmVille Post, please take a look around! You can find our weekly in-depth articles on Crops by searching our Crop Spotlights, like this one on Nachos! If you’re into thorough research for various new features around FarmVille, take a look at our How-to sections, which is deeper than a copy and paste of Zynga’s own community guides. We also review every item that arrives on the Market, usually on Sunday and Wednesday evenings, like this review of this week’s Mystery Game.

For the latest Contest we are running, check out our Contests page – even if this contest has expired, there is an active one every week! After all, every Friday is Free Stuff Friday!

New Items: English Sheep, Shire Horse, and More

Author Major Category , , , ,

Yet another update has hit the English Countryside tonight, this time invading the Market! We are guessing the days for Market goods may have rotated to Tuesdays and Thursdays instead of the usual Sundays and Wednesdays, though we are not positive on that at this time.

null

We usually tackle new Horses first, but we decided to go with the brand new English Countryside-exclusive English Sheep at the top slot for today. Why? Well, beyond the Sheep Breeding feature — as we suspect this will provide a great new off-blue color, though the flag pattern itself will likely not be available as a portion of the breeding effort – it is a really cool-looking Sheep. It sports the Union Jack across its side, and is a fantastic shade of blue, not quite the navy of Doctor Who’s TARDIS, but still quite dandy. It can be obtained for 22 FV Cash, and we recommend it – but that may just be our infatuation with Sheep Breeding talking.

null

Speaking of wise purchases, here is the brand new Shire Horse. When we say “brand new,” we mean it, as this is an entirely original model for Horses that is being displayed for the Shire Horse, which resembles an incredibly thick Clydesdale. Notice how cannon-shaped the body of this new brand of Horse is? We love seeing original Horses in FarmVille, so we’re happy to pay the 26 FV Cash to own this new gal, which creates a new Foal in its likeness, to boot.

We love the way the three colors all mesh together so perfectly. Seeing original designs like this reminds us why we love playing FarmVille, so hats off to the art team responsible for crafting these beauties. It can be obtained for either of your two farms, unlike the next addition to FarmVille…

null

The Brown Dutch Rabbit is an English Countryside-exclusive Animal, much like the English Sheep, but much less characteristic. The Dutch Brown Rabbit is a repaint of the original FarmVille Rabbit, making it a staple to the series but hardly justifying the 12 FV Cash price tag or the English Countryside exclusivity.  It’s not so much that this is a bad paint job or that it is ridiculously priced, neither of which we believe is true, but we are curious as to why this particular Rabbit is land locked when it’s hardly that original? It’s a head-scratcher, for certain.

Keep it tuned to FarmVille Post, as Trees are next in our line of vision.

New Items: Antique Shoppe and Thatched Cottage

Author Major Category , , , ,

A coupling of brand new Buildings under the English Countryside theme have arrived on the Market – one land-locked to the English Countryside, and the other available on both farms – in tonight’s surprise Market update. Let’s take a gander at the look they provide.

null

Let us start out with the non-land-locked Building, which means that it can be placed on either your “home” farm or your English Countryside farm. This is a new Coin item for the week, the Antique Shoppe. This is a strange Building due to its high-rise stature compared to other Buildings in the game; it is quite tall, all in all. It almost looks like a Swedish type of architecture to the naked eye, though that could be our Middle American ignorance talking.

We are honestly not huge on this one, as it has several items strewn about around the front of the establishment and seems too lanky for its own good. It can be rotated and can be purchased for 350,000 Coins, making it a hefty purchase that will also net you 3500 EXP.

null

The second Building is the premium FV Cash structure that is land-locked on the English Countryside farm, looking to give you an air of brilliance when placed upon your new, fresh soil: the Thatched Cottage. Now this is a proper English Countryside addition, as the cobblestones line up across the foundation of the house, working as a planter for some pretty white flowers. The straw rooftop and bowed archways really set off an English Countryside look that we approve of; in fact, we are planning on using this one on our own English Countryside farm! It can be rotated and costs 20 FV Cash, which we think is slightly steep for a non-functional Building, but only by a couple of FV Cash. You will receive 2000 EXP for the purchase.

Which is your favorite of these two Buildings? Let us know if we’re wrong or right!

New Items: Candy Apple Tree and Giant Candy Apple Tree

Author Major Category , , ,

Throughout the week, some seedy Trees have surfaced in FarmVille. Even I, Farmer Zoop, was caught off-guard by a scam promoting this latest Tree, and I’m about as watchful of scams as a hunting dog is of quail. It can happen to the best of us, right?

null

The scam-worthy Tree is question, you ask? The brand new Candy Apple Tree, a delicious new arborist’s dream that has a wonderful, slender body and wispy branches that almost passes for your everyday Tree until you notice that the bark contains swirls of crimson. This is one of the reasons that we love this Tree so much, because it doesn’t feel entirely committed to being a wacky Tree or a real Tree. It’s nice for those of you who try to keep your farm on the “real” side of things but want to let your imagination grow a little bit. It can be obtained for 5 FV Cash, and we recommend it.

null

Similarly, the Level 2 variation of the Candy Apple Tree is the Giant Candy Apple Tree, the source of all the scams that have popped up over the past week now. It is available for 10 FV Cash. You can get one of those large puppies for free if you purchase the smaller version and grow some Mystery Seedlings in an Orchard containing only the Candy Apple Tree. Both the Level 1 and Level 2 versions of these Trees have the same core statistics: 150 Coins per harvest once every couple of days and 75 harvests to reach the first stage of Tree Mastery. For once in a long, long time, we prefer the Giant version to the regular sized Tree; it just looks better as a bigger specimen.

Keep it tuned to the Post, as we will tackle the two new Buildings in FarmVille.

New Items: Stone Bridge, Garden Pond, and More

Author Major Category , , ,

Oh my! It seems that the Decorations page has received a healthy boost of English Countryside after such a dry spell the other night during the main English Countryside expansion’s arrival. Now there is tons of goodies to mess around with, the best of which is a Coin item!

null

Here is the aforementioned best item in the entire update, the Stone Bridge. This new entry can be purchased on both your original and English Countryside farms, and if you are like us, it looks perfect on both! You are looking at the rotated view of the Stone Bridge, as the sun shines softly on the bridge itself from this viewpoint.

It is hard to dislike this true countryside item, with its carefully crafted suspended walkway comprised of stone and wood across a waterbed that truly gives credence to the idea that your farm is in a habitat all its own. You can purchase this for 250,000 Coins, which is a steal at that price, and also receive 2500 EXP in the process.

null

For the FV Cash side of things, there is another lovely Decoration that is not land-locked, thus making it freely available to both of your farms. This is the Garden Pond, a tiny Decoration with a tiny footprint for those of you out there operating on a limited amount of space on your farms. It features some animation, meaning that it cannot be rotated to better adjust to your farm. With that said, it is pretty small, rendering the lack of rotating a minor inconvenience. It costs quite a bit of money for the size, clocking in at 15 FV Cash (giving you 1500 EXP), but is worth it for size-crunching decorators.

null

On the English Countryside-only side of things, why not have one of the Queen’s glorious, never-sniffing guards as a Gnome? That’s right Gnome lovers, the new Gnome in FarmVille is the Queen’s Guard, standing at attention waiting on command. We’ve tried everything to make him laugh, from showing him the Silkie Chicken to tickling his nose with a Chicken’s butt. Nothing works. He costs 15 FV Cash and has all of the traits you’d expect of a Gnome, including no rotation.

null

Back to the Coin items that can be used across either of your farms, we have the Flower Barrow, designed for combining the luxury of glorious, beautiful flowers with the hard country work of picking them in the barrow. The styles clash, as do the culture differences, and we love it. The design is the perfect mixture of the English Countryside work ethic and the beautiful Crops the soil can produce, so it’s a good PR design as well. It costs 120,000 Coins, which is steep for a tiny Decoration, but who doesn’t have a lot of Coins by now, anyhow? You will receive 1200 EXP for the purchase.

null

How about those of you who want to spruce up your English Countryside farm into looking like a fresh spring meadow? What better way to do that than with the two different types of grass: Lush Grass and, obviously, Spring Meadow! The Lush Grass is tall, green growth that looks fantastic and natural on the English Countryside, while the Spring Meadow features a little bit of floral balance throughout the grass. The Lush Grass runs 1,000 Coins per plot, while the Spring Meadow will cost you 2,000 Coins per plot.

null

Lastly is a brand new piece of Fencing, the Drystone Wall. At first glance, we immediately fell in love with this design, but quickly learned the hard way that the Fencing does not link up with one another, thus making it look blocky and out of synch with the rest of the farm. Each link costs 5,000 Coins, and while we like the design itself quite a bit, just look at how awkward the other Fencing looks. Ick.

That does it for tonight’s Market update! What was your favorite addition to the Market tonight?

New Items: Dogwood Tree and Pink Dogwood Tree

Author Major Category ,

With all the commotion with yesterday’s English Countryside release – along with the most untimely of power outages – we are tackling the Market reviews today! That’s right, a brand new set of Market items debuted in last night’s crazy, hectic update. We guess that’s why there was no update on Sunday evening!

null

Let’s start off with the Trees. There are two new Trees in FarmVille: the Dogwood Tree and Pink Dogwood Tree. This is the Level 1 equivalent, the Dogwood Tree, available for 5 FV Cash on the Market. The Dogwood Tree is one of the beauties that we have been longing for for several months now, as we are big fans of real-life Trees in FarmVille. Sure, we love the made-up Trees, but when the crazy Bubble Gums and Disco Balls begin outweighing actual Trees in reality, it becomes a little bit of a head-scratcher.

This one is definitely worth the money at 5 FV Cash, so take a chance on it. After all, you can even receive the Level 2 variation in your Mystery Seedlings if you place this one in an Orchard. It has all of the Limited Edition stats: two days on the harvest, 150 Coins per harvest, and 75 harvests until the first Mastery level can be attained.

null

On the flipside of things, you have the Tree that has been popping up among farmers’ Mystery Seedlings over the past week now. This is the Pink Dogwood Tree, and it is the Level 2 Tree of the coupling. It’s a great addition to FarmVille, and closely resembles its Level 1 brethren; in fact, it is absolutely identical except for the color. We prefer the regular Dogwood Tree, simply because it is hard to find gorgeous white Trees in FarmVille, but this one certainly is no slouch. It has the same stats as the Level 1 version: two days on the harvest, 150 Coins per harvest, and 75 harvests until the first Mastery level can be attained… but costs 5 FV Cash more, ringing up for a total of 10 FV Cash. We recommend buying the Level 1 and making your own via Mystery Seedlings.

The Market also sees the return of the Hazelnut Tree (Level 2) and the Chestnut Tree (Level 1). We love both of these Trees, but 14 FV Cash is way too much for the Hazelnut – so buy the Chestnut for 6 FV Cash and make your own Hazelnut Trees in your Orchard!

New EC Items: Colored Sheep, English Cow, and More

Author Major Category , , ,

Along with the Animal update on both of the farms, there are several brand new Animals that are exclusive solely to the English Countryside. You can tell the majority of them by the FVEC logo that appears next to the entry, but a few without that logo are not popping up on our original farm. We will review all of those items right here.

Let’s start off with the meat and potatoes of the entire update: the Pastel Pink Ewe, the Navy Ewe, and the Polka-Dot Ram. The Ewes cost 20 FV Cash each and the Ram will run ya 30 FV Cash. Basically, these are your upstarts for the Sheep Pen, giving you a better variety of Sheep to breed. We love all of these, as we have bred several different Sheep from the combinations. Here is a small gallery that we have received from our breeding experiments:

Whether or not you purchase these Sheep is more up to you than up to us; this is beyond opinion, though we do recommend the Polka-Dot Ram, as Rams seem to be tougher to breed than Ewes, and it will give you results containing the Polka-Dot pattern.

Here is a brand new Chicken: the Old English Hen. This Old English Hen will produce Level 17 Eggs, dubbed the English Mystery Eggs, as they have the stripe of the Union Jack across them. We prefer the Dorking Chicken to the Old English Hen, but they are still two of — if not the — best Chickens ever designed in FarmVille. We have not confirmed whether or not they can produce one another within the Mystery Eggs as of this time, but we suspect they will – thus making this purchase for 20 FV Cash strictly for early adapters.

Lastly, and certainly not least, we have the adult version of that adorable Calf that was wearing the English hat from several weeks ago: the English Cow. Naturally, this one will produce the English Calf that we have had on our farm since the English Countryside Postcard gave it away for free. It costs 22 FV Cash, and is your basic Cow wearing an English hat. It’s nothing we would write home about, but we know several readers were crazy about the Calf, so maybe this one is in the eye of the beholder?

Keep it tuned to FarmVille Post as we continue to rundown the Market update with a look at this week’s Mystery Game!
